In 2001, when Wi-Fi, cloud computing, and smartphones were still dreams of the future, Andy and his co-founders saw an opportunity to revolutionize the trillion-dollar auction industry. Despite being told their vision was “not possible” due to technological limitations, the Proxibid team persevered. Through innovative problem-solving and sheer determination, they overcame challenges like real-time streaming on 56K modems and bringing internet connectivity to centuries-old European auction houses.
Andy will recount Proxibid’s evolution from its humble beginnings – using cardboard boxes, walkie-talkies, and Windows 2000 PCs – to processing $6 billion worth of merchandise annually. He’ll discuss how Proxibid’s unique approach to disruption helped save small auction houses while transforming the industry.
